Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN

This movie depicted 2 young prominant boys having a summer filled with boredom and get themselves into much trouble. The boys are saying goodbye to there girl friends for the summer and make them promise not to have sex with anyone else. These boys meet a cousins wife and invite her on a summer trip to an area of beach that they know does not exist. During the traveling they end up having sex with the older women and finding out that they had had sex with each others girlfriends. The friendship gets troubled but over time they get drunk on night and they become friends again. The women in the movie does things as an adult and shows these boys to much about adult life. Overall this movie did show 2 rich boys with boredom trying to forget about there girlfriends being gone and the movie shows poverty striken mexico as they travel and the needs of families that they meet. The one family that were boat people and the issues that they were suffering with no real place to live or stay. The poverty of the nation is interesting and how the families always did well.

El ViajedeCarol

I really enjoyed this movie I am probably the only one who had seen the movie with subtitles in it. This movie moved me and again shows the lengths that a mother will go to to protect and have her child taken care of. Carol's mother taking her to Spain and dying to make sure her daughter was taken care of. The fact that Carols father was american and mother from Spain shows again the mixuture of 2 great cultures. Carol during the movie forms a great relationship with Tomiche whom she fought with at the beginning. The kind of love the 2 of them showed was great. Two young people who had a lot in common from 2 cultures. Tomi had no father figure in his life and Carol was lacking hers, due to war. After her mother dies Carol strives to keep her fathers letters coming and not letting him know her mother died. After a while the grandfather goes against his promise to keep the secret but over all Carol longs to see her father. Carol tries hard to adapt to her new culture, but things are really hard. She spends alot of time teaching maid to read and write and developes a good relationship with her. Her cousin and her become good friends and feel like sisters. Carol fights the discrimination that happened to her in the writings on the house and fears for her family. I think the relationship between her and Tomi were great and the love showed greatly at the end when Tomi went to find Carol's dad on his own and then was shot and killed. Carol was a strong young lady. This movie was very interesting.

VOLVER?LISA LYNAM

This movie shows alot of what a parent/mother will do for there children. The mother image shows alot of caring and compassion for her children. the fact that Raimundo protected her daughter from her father after he told her that he was not her father and raped her then she killed him. Raimundo is strong in her compassion that Paula not tell anyone she killed her father. The superstitions of the movie in the beginning showed the families cleaning the graves of the parents or loved ones, they buy there stones and care for them until death, and them the living care for it as a sign of respect. In the progression of the movie when Aunt Paula dies, Sole is visitied by what she thinks is her mothers spirit but soon finds out that this whole time her mother is alive and had cared for Aunt Paula til her death. There mother Irene had hidden out wiht Aunt Paula after they thought she was dead because she had set fire too her husband and lover in the hut, but everyone thought is was Irene. He was having an affair with Augustina mother and no one knew but Augustina nd Irene. This superstition again shows how far a mother would go for her children. When Irene then is taken in by Sole and she hids it from Raimundo until she is ready to hear it, Paula finds her grandmother and helps Sole present it to Raimundo. In the finalization of the movie when Augustina is dying and Irene feels she owes her the love and compassion that she had given Aunt Paula all these years, she was not going to let her die alone. This is on aspect that this culture brings is that the family and death is a given and that no one should be alone and it is a part of living. Another part of superstitions in the movie is how all the town thought they were seeing visions of Irene but had no idea she was alive, so all the rumors about town of her became true in the end. Again everything a mother WILL do for her CHILDREN: LOVE...........................................

Guantanamera/Lisa Lynam

This movie was a very interesting seting in Cuba history. We again see avery intellectual women a economics professor married to weak common man. The fact that she gave up her career to move back home to Guantanamera and her husband did alot of traveling to Havena was very interesting. He was trying to make a name for himself in the funeral world. Gina's aunt Georgina came to visit and be honored by her community for the work she had done, finds her lost love of 50 years and they get together and reminisced about there love. When Georgina dies is a very sad part of the movie, and Candido doesn't feel like he can go on without here. Adolfo tells Gina he will escort Georgina body back to Havena in funeral prcessiona nd Gina and Candidio go with him. Many things happen to keep them from being on track andAdolfo thinks someone is sabotague him. The turning part of the movie for Gina is when she meets up with lost student who she fell inlove with years ago but didn't act on. He had written letter of love to her and never saw her again. Also a part where Gina finally felt she could break away fromAdolfo is when he called Aunt Georgina a slut to funeral guide in one of the cities. Once the casket arrived and Candido saw the body and dies because it is not Georgina. The final resting place of the funeral Adolfo is giving speech of bothof them and storm starts he is left there and Gina gives into her love to Mariano and they ride off on the bike........

The Official Story

LISA LYNAM:
This movie by far was very interesting inthe history of Argentina. The women of this era during war were very strong, they seemed to keep the family together. The men after there jobs became involved in war activities, but there families had no idea what was going on. No one can escape the regime of the military, although some are luckier than others. Alicia and Roberto were a very influential, safe, and fortunate family. Alicia was unable to have children and wanted a child badly. Roberto through his wealthy contacts got a baby for Alicia, her name was Gaby. Gaby was loved and cherished as if it was her own biological child.
The most moving part of the movie for me was the part when Alicia's friend Ana came back to town and told Alicia of her story of being exiled and kidnapped. She has no idea what happened to her, except that many people came and went wnd there children were taken away from them. After there talk Alicia believed that Gaby might be one of the missing babies on the news. As a history teacher of high school boys she taught them about different things and one of the students challenged her. Alicia embarks on a journey of hope to find Gaby's parents and through her findings may habve found her grandmother.
The Grandmother's of the Plaza de Mayo is a significant part of history. These women are very strong and looking for there families. The sign of hope and hopelessness that Alicia felt in trying to find Gaby's parents is real to her. This would not change the way she felt about Gaby. Gaby during her birthday party finds realization of a time of her life she was unaware of, by her cousins running around palying with guns. The ending of the movie inwhich Gaby is sitting in rocking chair singing nursey rhyme is parallel to Alicia waiting for he rparents to come home but they were in accident and no one told her til later in life. Gaby promotes the memory for Alicia.
Gaby does shoe idea of hope and hopelessness, but overall she is the sign of hope for Alicia because no matter what she will be loved and cared for equally. There is much contoversary between fact and emotion in htis film. Many of the emotions are based on feelings. There are the hope for the family in life. We all can identify with this as being parents ourselves.
Very moving part of history, with strong realization of hope and hoplessness.

Lisa Lynam,Like Water for Chocolate

This movie by far was one of the best ones we have seen. I t was a great romatic movie and began showing the aspects of Hispanic culture in the family. It shows the details of the Hispanic culture of how your place in the family is. Tita being born ad the last female, seems like she was to be the dervant to her mother til her death. Tiat was not allowed to marry but had fallen in love with Pedro as a young girl. During the time of Pedro trying to court her and asking for her hand in love her mother denied that love and offered her sister Rosuara instead. Rosuara did not care that her sister was in love with Pedro and married him anyway. Pedro's only wish was to be near Tita, but her mother caught on and made Pedro and Rosuara move away after the birth of there son. After Rosuara and Pedro moved away there son Roberto died and there mother did not even seem to care, but this threw Tita overboard and left her mothers house, and became crazy, then sent away to Dr Brown to treat her. Dr Brown falls in love with Tita and asks her to marry him, and she accepts and later tells him she can't marry because she doesn't love him. The part of the movie that always was interesting is the celebrations for all the happy moments in the family. The preparation of the food and the glamour of it all, Tita said the food was great because it was made with Love. Tita's love for food was truely because her nanny Nacha raised her in the kitchen, and showed her the love for food. Throught the film it was interesting to see how Pedro and Tita's love kept growing and they were trying to fulfill there love. Tita felt that it would of been better it Pedro just had kidnapped him. The most emotional part of the movie was at the end when they were complainting there love and Pedro dies and then she eats the matches and the fire starts and Tita covers both of them up and die and the fire. The closing of the only thing left for niece when she returns from Honeymoon is the cookbook that Tita used. They feel the culture can be cared on by cooking those foods, with LOVE.

Lisa Lynam / Motorcycle Diaries

This movie was very interesting to watch. Ernesto Guevara was a well off young man soon to graduate from college with doctorate in medcine. During the begiining of the movie I feel that Erneseto was a cold climate person. He had many ideals of what the world was in books but needed to go and venture out to find out the real world. Ernesto and his friend Alberto go on the adventure of there life to go and volunteer at the Leper colony. Both men were restless nature with much imagination. Ernesto was a warm spirited person, with alot of compassion and caring for any individual. He wanted to help people no matter what. One part of the movie that seems to prove his leadership is when the doctor told them to wear gloves at the Leper colony and they refused. The did not feel it was necessary because the could not catch the leperacy, although the nuns were upset they didn't fight much. Ernesto was not afraid of the sick population and that showed during the movie when he swam across the river. He was not happy that the sick and well were separted. during the whole movie Ernesto was the most honest person I've seen, he could not tell any lie. Ernesto felt that hter was a great injustice inthe world with th eincrease of the indigent population and felt he needed to help them the most. The one scene that also help shape Ernesto into a leader is the birthday party and he changes to a warm climate person in giving toast and telling the colony how this party given to him, even though they only knew him 3 weeks was like they were family and that was the best part of it. Again this was agreat movie to watch.

Women on the verge of nervous breakdown

LISA LYNAM
The interaction between the women and men was in my opinion of the chart. The main character Pepa was longing to find her ex-lover, Ivan and was doing anything possible to find him. throughout her escaped she found out that Ivan had a son Carlos. Upon finding out this it appeared to me that her conversation and demeanor changed. When she meet Carlos for the first time when came to sublet her apartment she seemed to be alittle more sexual in her behavior, by being up in his face and swinging her hair back. Everything from then on revolved around information she could get about Ivan, in which Carlos did not know much, for he and his father did not see each much, he was raised by grand parents. His mother Ivans ex-wife was in mental institiution after his birth til just recently. Pepa was very unhappy that Ivan was leaving her, for what she thought was his ex-wife and vice versa, unknown to both that there was another women. Pepa was trying to find Ivan to tell him that he was going to be a father, but could never find him. During the whole time out looking fo r Ivan she never told anyone she was pregnant, but at the end she tells a stranger. Pepa longed for the love of her life.
Feelings in this movie are definetly over reacted. Pepa consistantly got upset because she either missed Ivans call or he did not call, she always threw something because she was upset and in her plot she was going to poison Ivan to make hime staty with her, but the drink eventually was used to allow Pepa to get away to help save Ivan from his ex-wife trying to kill him. Pepa eventually figured out how ex-wife was going to kill him and adverted it, it wasonly then that Ivan was willing to talk to Pepa, but she wasn't. she finally was at a point that she had given up and never told him she was pregnant. She eventually went home and told Marisa, Carlos finacee' that she was pregnant. They then began to talk.
I do see differences in the film in relation to today. If this would of happened in th US I feel there would of been alittle more violence from the women and men. Pepa seemed to be passive but aggressive in nature. She only wanted Ivan to know particular that she was pregnant, but wanted nothing to do with him. But on the other hand Ivans ex-wife was aggressive and wanted to hurt Ivan in anyway she could for all the lost years. The spanish population in my opinion seems alittle aggressive but able to hold on to things.
Overall, I do not think there is much different from Spanish American and Spanish European Women, mostly because they are coming from the same type of background. In saying this they are able to control and conquer alot of there culture.
In my opinion I feel that the Spanish culture id very family oriented and that is very important to them. You could see this with Pepa wanting a family and letting Ivan know, but he was not interested inher anymore. The family role is very important in there culture. I see this on a daily basis I have a son in law that is of Puerto Rican descent and he is very family oriented.
So far I have found this movie very funny and tells me alot about the culture.

Lynamlisa.Machuca

The interaction between Gonzalo and Pedro begins at school and renders outward to home life. Gonzalo appeared to be a loner and strived for friendship. Pedro was an outsider brought into an area where the rich kids didn't want him around. The relationship between Gonzalo and Pedro began when Father McEnroe placed Pedro behind Gonzalo in class. There seemed to be a sense of kindness between them from the beginning. They quickly became friends and learned from each others life. They were so different. Gonzalo seemed to not care that he was rich, his friendship meant more to him. The longing of a true friendship meant more than anything. The true interaction between two different social classes of these boys truely shows what a friendship can be. During the military coup, the friendship of Gonzalo and Pedro did not survive, there was much hurt on Pedro's side when Gonzalo was trying to get away and told the guard that he didn't live there, his statement "look at me, I don't live here".
The differences between the two social classes is very interesting. The rich boys in school always made it known that the poor boys parents did the manual labor at there homes. The por boys were never ashamed of what there parents did. The poor always struggled, lived in poor conditions, but the family was always the center of everything. The rich always felt that items in life were more important than family values.
There are many things that can be thought about through this film. The family values, culture aspects of the rich and poor have different views. The value of a friendship in the young appears more importnat than the class you are. Friendship has many different values to different people. Gonzalo and Pedro showed how a friendship can get past the social class.
My thoughts on this movie are that no matter who you are a friendship can mean more than anything. Many children learn from there parents the social class and values in life that lead to friendships and life values. Also children learn more by being able to see different social classes and not being critized for wanting to know more abotu different cultures and classes. This film showed how two children from different social status become friends. Also this movie shows the conviction and difficulties of growing up.

La Misma Luna

Rosario had to leave Mexico at a young age to make a better life for her and her son Carlitos. She lef thim with th eone person in her life that she knew would care for Carlitos and not ask any questions, her mother. During this time her mother became ill and his uncle tried to get Carlitos to live with him, but he only wanted him because Rosario was sending 300 dollars a month to her mother to care for Carlitos. Rosario was working 2 jobs to get money together to bring Carlitos over to America. She would not accept help from her friends that she had. After 4 long years Carlitos was tired of waiting, after his 9 th birthday and his grandmother dying he ran away and found someone to smuggle him accross border to find mother. He recieved help from stranger that became his friend.
Rosario's decision was very hard for her, she loved her son very much and did not like being away from him. She was a single mother trying to do the best for her and her son. Carlitos struggled with anger because he did not have his mother and his father was not involved in his life. Rosario did what ever she could as an illegal in Amercia to try and get things together to bring her son over.
I believe a mother today in America would not do the same thing, there are so many programs available to the mothers and fathers, to allow them to stay together. This film shows the love of a mother and son and how time and distance can not keep the love away

test

This is a test for Professor Anorga, did I set this up right? Thank you
