The interaction between Gonzalo and Pedro begins at school and renders outward to home life. Gonzalo appeared to be a loner and strived for friendship. Pedro was an outsider brought into an area where the rich kids didn't want him around. The relationship between Gonzalo and Pedro began when Father McEnroe placed Pedro behind Gonzalo in class. There seemed to be a sense of kindness between them from the beginning. They quickly became friends and learned from each others life. They were so different. Gonzalo seemed to not care that he was rich, his friendship meant more to him. The longing of a true friendship meant more than anything. The true interaction between two different social classes of these boys truely shows what a friendship can be. During the military coup, the friendship of Gonzalo and Pedro did not survive, there was much hurt on Pedro's side when Gonzalo was trying to get away and told the guard that he didn't live there, his statement "look at me, I don't live here".
The differences between the two social classes is very interesting. The rich boys in school always made it known that the poor boys parents did the manual labor at there homes. The por boys were never ashamed of what there parents did. The poor always struggled, lived in poor conditions, but the family was always the center of everything. The rich always felt that items in life were more important than family values.
There are many things that can be thought about through this film. The family values, culture aspects of the rich and poor have different views. The value of a friendship in the young appears more importnat than the class you are. Friendship has many different values to different people. Gonzalo and Pedro showed how a friendship can get past the social class.
My thoughts on this movie are that no matter who you are a friendship can mean more than anything. Many children learn from there parents the social class and values in life that lead to friendships and life values. Also children learn more by being able to see different social classes and not being critized for wanting to know more abotu different cultures and classes. This film showed how two children from different social status become friends. Also this movie shows the conviction and difficulties of growing up.

  1. I agree with your comments about friendship meaning more than anything to Gonzalo. Even though he had many things, I didn't see him have many friends. In fact, the friends I remember him making in the movie were all through Pedro. I also agree with your comments about the rich being interested in items and the poor being more interested in family. The look on Pedro's face when Gonzalo made his comment about him not belonging there seemed so sad. I am sure those works had such great power to hurt because of the friendship they had shared. When Gonzalo's father and sister would make mean comments, Gonzalo did not seem too bothered by them, just would shrug. I wonder if his families words didn't have much power because they seemed more interested in things.
