VOLVER?LISA LYNAM
This movie shows alot of what a parent/mother will do for there children. The mother image shows alot of caring and compassion for her children. the fact that Raimundo protected her daughter from her father after he told her that he was not her father and raped her then she killed him. Raimundo is strong in her compassion that Paula not tell anyone she killed her father. The superstitions of the movie in the beginning showed the families cleaning the graves of the parents or loved ones, they buy there stones and care for them until death, and them the living care for it as a sign of respect. In the progression of the movie when Aunt Paula dies, Sole is visitied by what she thinks is her mothers spirit but soon finds out that this whole time her mother is alive and had cared for Aunt Paula til her death. There mother Irene had hidden out wiht Aunt Paula after they thought she was dead because she had set fire too her husband and lover in the hut, but everyone thought is was Irene. He was having an affair with Augustina mother and no one knew but Augustina nd Irene. This superstition again shows how far a mother would go for her children. When Irene then is taken in by Sole and she hids it from Raimundo until she is ready to hear it, Paula finds her grandmother and helps Sole present it to Raimundo. In the finalization of the movie when Augustina is dying and Irene feels she owes her the love and compassion that she had given Aunt Paula all these years, she was not going to let her die alone. This is on aspect that this culture brings is that the family and death is a given and that no one should be alone and it is a part of living. Another part of superstitions in the movie is how all the town thought they were seeing visions of Irene but had no idea she was alive, so all the rumors about town of her became true in the end. Again everything a mother WILL do for her CHILDREN: LOVE...........................................

What a wonderful comment about a mother's love. This was a very poignant message in this film. I also saw it as a tribute to very strong women that endure horrible tragedies in their lives.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was also very wonderful that Irene went to Augustino to be with her when she was dying. Because of what Irene had done to her mother, I felt that she owed that to her, but what sadness.
