Lisa Lynam / Motorcycle Diaries

This movie was very interesting to watch. Ernesto Guevara was a well off young man soon to graduate from college with doctorate in medcine. During the begiining of the movie I feel that Erneseto was a cold climate person. He had many ideals of what the world was in books but needed to go and venture out to find out the real world. Ernesto and his friend Alberto go on the adventure of there life to go and volunteer at the Leper colony. Both men were restless nature with much imagination. Ernesto was a warm spirited person, with alot of compassion and caring for any individual. He wanted to help people no matter what. One part of the movie that seems to prove his leadership is when the doctor told them to wear gloves at the Leper colony and they refused. The did not feel it was necessary because the could not catch the leperacy, although the nuns were upset they didn't fight much. Ernesto was not afraid of the sick population and that showed during the movie when he swam across the river. He was not happy that the sick and well were separted. during the whole movie Ernesto was the most honest person I've seen, he could not tell any lie. Ernesto felt that hter was a great injustice inthe world with th eincrease of the indigent population and felt he needed to help them the most. The one scene that also help shape Ernesto into a leader is the birthday party and he changes to a warm climate person in giving toast and telling the colony how this party given to him, even though they only knew him 3 weeks was like they were family and that was the best part of it. Again this was agreat movie to watch.

  1. I totally agreed with your response. At the end of my post I had mentioned how I had probably missed several scenes that helped shape his personality as a leader, and you picked a few that I didn't mention! The movie was so full of examples, all of them very special. I also loved how Ernesto and Albero refused to wear gloves when they arrived at the leprosy colony. To show others that there was no need to wear gloves, and no reason not to become friends to those people were wonderful. If the world had mre people like Ernesto, I think we would all be in a better place. Ernesto showed everyone he came in contact with how much he cared for them, no matter how poor or sick they were. Ernesto saw the injustice, and felt it was his duty to try and help others in anyway he could. It was a shame to find out that he was later killed by the CIA. Interesting...!

  2. Lisa, you have mentioned a great point here. Do you think Ernesto was influenced by his well off family to become the leader of many movements in Latin America?

  3. I think by having an influent family that sometimes it can bring a person to do more than anyone who does not have any money or support. His family was very supportive of what he wanted and had to do, so they gave him the opportunity to try things that most people would not be able to do.
