Rosario had to leave Mexico at a young age to make a better life for her and her son Carlitos. She lef thim with th eone person in her life that she knew would care for Carlitos and not ask any questions, her mother. During this time her mother became ill and his uncle tried to get Carlitos to live with him, but he only wanted him because Rosario was sending 300 dollars a month to her mother to care for Carlitos. Rosario was working 2 jobs to get money together to bring Carlitos over to America. She would not accept help from her friends that she had. After 4 long years Carlitos was tired of waiting, after his 9 th birthday and his grandmother dying he ran away and found someone to smuggle him accross border to find mother. He recieved help from stranger that became his friend.
Rosario's decision was very hard for her, she loved her son very much and did not like being away from him. She was a single mother trying to do the best for her and her son. Carlitos struggled with anger because he did not have his mother and his father was not involved in his life. Rosario did what ever she could as an illegal in Amercia to try and get things together to bring her son over.
I believe a mother today in America would not do the same thing, there are so many programs available to the mothers and fathers, to allow them to stay together. This film shows the love of a mother and son and how time and distance can not keep the love away
